This guide will help you:
Perhaps there are constant mood swings, and it is like they don’t want to know you anymore; maybe they are staying constantly shut in their room.
Your preteen is not trying to antagonise you on purpose, and they are not intentionally disconnecting from you.
This is very normal and can be a rough patch many parents face. I want to arm you with some tools to reduce the tension, help bring back more connection and form a solid foundation moving into the teen years.
You are their parent, and you are a critical part of their continued development.
While your pre-teen’s peers are becoming an increasingly important part of their social lives, you are the one they are looking to for love, trust and acceptance for who they are right at this moment, while they navigate the uncertainty of who they are becoming and who their trusted friends are.
Your child needs to know you will be there with love and accept them without judgement.
With a better understanding of your pre-teen and by learning some of the underlying reasons for their new behaviours, you will be in a position to reduce tension between you and your child and experience less friction and frustration while creating more opportunity for you to connect and enjoy each other’s company.
After studying personal development for my own growth over 30 years, I became fascinated with human nature.
As I worked in the school system for 15 years it became obvious to me that many young people were not learning skills which would enable them to develop courage to overcome their fears, bravery to take on life’s challenges and self-esteem so they didn’t worry about what others thought of them and what they did.
After raising my own 3 sons and working with kids, I developed a passion for helping pre-teens in a more focused way. My purpose now is to empower young people to live a life of strong self worth filled with confidence courage and joy while embracing their own true uniqueness, and I also support parents along the way.
I am a certified Adventures in Wisdom Coach for Kids; a qualified Rock and Water facilitator as well as being certified to use the Girl Power system to conduct workshops for pre-teens and teens. These certifications, along with my life’s experience, qualify me to teach kids skills to develop a confident and empowered life
